The NYCV Outreach Series

The NYCV is developing an outreach program so we can bring classical music to the public- for all ages! From introducing different instruments to nursery school children, to giving lectures at community centers and schools, and performances at nursing homes, The NYCV is dedicated to making a lasting impact on the community through music.

• Geared for pre-school/kindergarten aged children, the NYCV brings "Musical Storytime" to schools in New York and New Jersey.  Progra includes a brief description of different instruments, interactive games (learning about different musical sounds), and features a short popular story (i.e. Dr. Seuss or P.D.Eastman)  that shows the children how music and words can work together.  At the end of the program, children participate in a short sing along!

•  Based on "Musical Storytime", the series continues for children from Grades 1-8 with more attention to the different families of instruments (winds, brass, percussion, strings).  Stories are more sophisticated as the grade level inceases, and conversations/questions are encouraged after the program.

•  The Lecture Series for Adults and Young Adults are a series of interactive discussions about different aspects of music.  In the first program, "What is Classical Music?", the audience is introduced to the world of classical music as a whole, and touches upon different areas including Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary.  At the end of each section there is a "name that tune", where audience members discover they know more than they think!  Other programs in the series include "What is a Symphony?" which talks about different musical forms, an interactive Conducting session where audience members conduct each other as a chorus.
