About Us

OUR MISSION
The New York Chamber Virtuosi is a newly formed orchestra combining New York's energetic young professionals with a fresh approach to breaking down musical boundaries between the performer and audience. While keeping true to the classic orchestra, The NYCV looks to combine classic orchestral literature with more mainstream musical genres to make classical music more accessible to a growing, diverse public.

HISTORY
Founded by composer/clarinetist Jessica Sibelman, The NYCV held their debut performance at The Kaufman   Center's Merkin Concert Hall, where they combined music of the classical repertoire with original works by Ms. Sibelman.  New York critic Mark Greenfest praised the performance of Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 as “invigorating” and noted that Sibelman “brought new life to traditional forms… (and) was most impressed by the enthusiasm and dedication of this young orchestra and their vibrant style of play!” The concert also featured Tim Fain,  hailed by the NY Times as “a performer with a burgeoning career... played distinctively; establishing versatility, lyricism, virtuosity” in Sibelman’s  Violin Concerto.

A major part of our performances is our family concert series. In these concerts, we introduce musical instruments and classical music in an interactive and animated way. This is the perfect concert for music novices and children- but also an exciting experience for our seasoned listeners!

In addition to the orchestral series, The NYCV has formed a Chamber Music Series featuring performances by up-and-coming ensembles and our own ensemble-in-residence, The NYCV Players. The NYCV breaks down the barrier between the audience and musicians by means of a more intimate chamber performance in casual settings.  Through this series, the orchestra members build relationships with each other, as well as with their audience by bringing music back to its original state, and including and interacting with our audience.

The NYCV also has an outreach and lecture series where the musicians present programs to our audience in many different ways.  From visiting children in schools, playing at nursing homes, to presenting Powerpoint Lectures, we are determined to share our passion of music with the public.

Members of The NYCV are graduates of Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College of Music, and the New England Conservatory of Music, and have been acclaimed on their accomplishments in their solo, orchestral, and chamber music careers.
